Domains and Routing
When setting up your CourseKrafts site, you have complete control over how your audience accesses your content. Because you own your brand, you can use your own custom domains.
Here is a breakdown of the supported routing scenarios and how to set them up based on who hosts your marketing homepage.
Case 1: You Host Your Own Homepage Externally (e.g., WordPress/Webflow)
Section titled “Case 1: You Host Your Own Homepage Externally (e.g., WordPress/Webflow)”If you already have a website (like WordPress or Squarespace) on your main domain and just want to use CourseKrafts for your courses, you have two options:
Option A: Use a Custom Subdomain (Industry Standard)
Section titled “Option A: Use a Custom Subdomain (Industry Standard)”Example: Marketing site on schoolcoder.dev, courses on courses.schoolcoder.dev
This is the recommended approach for established creators. It provides a clean separation of concerns while keeping your brand front and center.
How to set it up:
- In the CourseKrafts dashboard, add
courses.schoolcoder.devas your Custom Domain. - In your domain registrar, add a
CNAMErecord pointingcoursestoproxy.coursekrafts.com. - In the CourseKrafts dashboard, set your External Homepage Redirect to
https://schoolcoder.dev. This ensures that if a student accidentally visits the rootcourses.schoolcoder.dev, they are instantly redirected back to your main marketing site, whilecourses.schoolcoder.dev/loginremains active.
Option B: Use the Free Platform Subdomain
Section titled “Option B: Use the Free Platform Subdomain”Example: Marketing site on schoolcoder.dev, courses on schoolcoder.coursekrafts.com
This is the easiest setup for the free tier.
How to set it up:
- In the CourseKrafts dashboard, set your External Homepage Redirect to
https://schoolcoder.dev. - On your WordPress site, simply add a “Login” button linking to
https://schoolcoder.coursekrafts.com/login. (No DNS configuration required!)
Case 2: You Want CourseKrafts to Host Everything
Section titled “Case 2: You Want CourseKrafts to Host Everything”If you are using CourseKrafts’ built-in SiteKit to build your marketing pages, you can host your entire online presence with us.
The “Holy Grail” Setup
Section titled “The “Holy Grail” Setup”Example: Marketing site on schoolcoder.dev, courses on schoolcoder.dev/dashboard
Because CourseKrafts controls the hosting for the entire domain, we can serve everything on one URL. This provides the absolute best SEO and the most seamless user experience.
How to set it up:
- In the CourseKrafts dashboard, add
schoolcoder.dev(orwww.schoolcoder.dev) as your Custom Domain. - In your domain registrar, add a
CNAMErecord pointing your root domain toproxy.coursekrafts.com. - CourseKrafts handles everything automatically! Your SiteKit pages are served at the root, and your LMS is served at
/dashboard.
(Note: We do not recommend splitting your SiteKit pages and courses across different subdomains if we host both. Keep them together on one domain for the best SEO impact.)
